Strengthened Within

Week 6 Day 33

Letting God Defend

Scripture

When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

1 Peter 2:23 · · ESV

While traveling, small misunderstandings can happen. Maybe a boarding group is called and someone assumes you stepped ahead of them, or a line becomes confusing and someone mutters a frustrated comment in your direction.

My first reaction in those moments is usually to explain myself. I want the other person to understand that I didn’t mean to do anything wrong.

But sometimes the moment passes before there is time to clarify. I simply move on.

Moments like that reveal how strong the desire is to defend our reputation, even in very small situations.

Most of us want the story about us to be set right.

Peter reminds believers that God sees every injustice.

Jesus faced far greater misunderstanding and suffering. Yet when He was insulted, He did not respond with threats or retaliation. Instead, He entrusted Himself to the One who judges justly.

He placed His situation into God’s hands rather than trying to control the outcome Himself.

Entrusting ourselves to God means believing that He will bring justice in His time and in His way. It allows us to respond with humility and patience rather than anger.

When I read this verse, I’m reminded how quickly I want to defend myself when I feel misunderstood. But Jesus shows another way—the quiet strength of trusting God with the outcome.

Perhaps today there is a situation where you feel wronged or misunderstood.

Pause for a moment and place that situation into God’s hands.

Sometimes the greatest strength is simply releasing the situation and trusting that God is already at work.

Prayer

Lord, help me trust You when I feel hurt or misunderstood.
Teach me to place my life and my struggles in Your hands.

Return. Rest. Quiet. Trust.
