Strengthened Within
Noticing Our Direction

Scripture
Lamentations 3:40 · · ESV
Lamentations was written after Jerusalem’s destruction in 586 BC. The city had fallen. The temple was burned. The people were exiled.
In the middle of grief, the writer pauses and calls the people to reflect.
The writer urges them to search, dig into, investigate their ways. This calls for a deliberate self-examination. He says they are to try their ways, to test, to refine, like metal proven in fire.
And then he invites them to turn back to the Lord – shuwbah.
Turning back is always an option. And is a continuous daily motion.
This week I am noticing my words and my reactions. They quietly reveal the direction of my heart. As I pause and look inward, I am asking God to guide my steps and strengthen me from within.
Lent invites this kind of courage.
Not dramatic overhaul, but steady realignment.
Prayer
Return. Rest.
